Lullaby

Oh! hush thee, my baby, the night is behind us,
And black are the waters that sparkled so green.
The moon, o'er the combers, looks downward to find us
At rest in the hollows that rustle between.

Where billow meets billow, then soft be thy pillow.
Ah, weary wee flipperling, curl at thy ease!
The storm shall not wake thee, nor shark overtake thee,
Asleep in the arms of the slow-swinging seas.

Seal Lullaby ~ Rudyard Kipling 1865-1936)

  2. Rudyard Kipling was my favourite author as boy and I remember my aunt reading to me the jungle stories from her darkened mysterious bedroom of her parents’ home. She suffered from a bad leg and spent a lot of time in her bedroom whose walls were adorned from floor to ceiling with endless shelves of old books.
This is the best rendition of Lullaby ever -lovely!!
    Best wishes

    1. Yes, one of my great pleasures as well to read to my children. Too soon they learn to read and go off on their own voyages without you, but that is the whole point of reading to a child. My daughter started initiating our granddaughter soon after she was born. A nightly ritual.
I wonder if they have a copy of Jungle Book yet? ...Hmm

  3. I have spent time of heavenly bliss here. What a masterpiece of 'Eric' music to go with this beautiful Kipling Lullaby. After listening to Eric speaking on the video where he answers questions, I listened to the choir one more time and enjoyed it tenfold. To top it all off I also listened to Jordi Savall, his daughter and the master on the green drum. Did you read Lucy's post about attending one of their concerts in Paris recently?
Your post made my day - thank you, Halle.

  4. Me again. Is my comment a bit of a riddle?
Maybe not. I did mention Eric answering questions and Jordi Savall because the videos came up, amongst others, after yours was finished.

    1. You are clever to check the extra offerings! I did not notice them, although I will admit that when you said there was an interview, that is what I figured you had done. I'll listen to those later this evening.
Eric has written several choral gems, but this one is my favorite by far!

So happy you enjoyed it too Ellena!
