Wishes Are Children

Careful the things you say,
Children will listen.

Today, just a piece of music, an ear-worm if you will, and the only way to purge it, is to indulge it, and perhaps, to share it. Just some music.... it cannot hurt you...

Careful the tale you tell,
That is the spell...

  1. I listened 3 times to Bernadette Peters. I guess the pitch of her voice is the wrong one for my ears. Understood very little. Then I listened to Barbra Streisand singing it with the Clinton Family in the audience. WOW, it touched me deeply for I am constantly reminded of the fact that children will listen. My autistic son can be at the most far end of a large room and will be coming over to me to ask "what you say about" whatever I have been talking about. And, this does not mean that I have a loud voice - au contraire.
Thanks,Halle, for the gift of this song.

  2. Yes, this is a song where the nuance is different too, depending upon the singer. Bernadette sang the song in the broadway version of "Into the Woods", Barbara is always amazing in her ability to 'put a song across'. Another version, with tremendous intensity, is done by Mandy Patinkin.

The song has tremendous personal meaning for me, because as a child, I found deeper meaning in what was said, and how it was said than I was supposed to. It made me the person I am, or who I should be, is probably better put.

Thank you for letting my know you found meaning too Ellena. I hope you are keeping warm.
